After years of contemplation and planning, builder Albrecht Ebensperger quite literally laid the foundation of the first Italian whisky distillery in 2010.
With great enthusiasm and profound passion for the scottish water of life encouraged the Ebensperger family to found PUNI distillery. In the midst of the Alps, near the Ortler mountain range, lies the distillery building, just outside the small town of Glurns in the Vinschgau valley. The 'Highlands of Italy' are an ideal place for creating an extraordinary whisky.
The growing of grain has a long tradition in the Vinschgau Valley. With its characteristic dry climate and low precipitation, rye has always been the dominant variety. Even throughout the Middle Ages the valley was renowned as an important rye-growing region. PUNI distillery uses the locally grown rye which adds distinctive flavour notes to their unique whisky recipe.
The distillery takes its name from the nearby Puni river, which flows through the Vinschgau valley. Similar to Scottish distilleries, which very often have gaelic names, PUNI is an ancient raetic name, deeply rooted in the local history.

ALBA - the Italian word for dawn, as well as the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland - is matured for three years in the finest Marsala casks from Sicily and finished in hand selected casks from the Isle of Islay.

PUNI SOLE was matured for two years in first-fill Bourbon barrels from the United States and finished for another two years in some of the best Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks from Spain.

GOLD is the classic style of the Italian Malt Whisky. Matured exclusively in first-fill Ex-Bourbon casks, GOLD is a fragrant and elegant whisky with a bright golden colour and a timeless character. This whisky was matured in our above-ground warehouses, where the climatic differences between summer and winter have the biggest impact and accelerate the natural maturation rate. During its maturation period GOLD develops an exquisite & mellow flavour profile, defined by a rich sweetness.

VINA is our exclusive range of wine cask matured whiskies. 'Vina' is the Latin word for 'wines' and each Edition showcases a different palette of aromas. Marsala is a fortified wine traditionally produced on the Italian island of Sicily. It is made from Italian white grape varietals and aged in European oak casks. Our casks have previously held dry Marsala Vergine and were handselected to create this magnificent Edition of VINA.

In the VINA Marsala Edition mixed aromas of fruit cake are dominant. Creamy walnuts and sweet sultanas envelop the palate and notes of cherry compote with cinnamon, plums and orange peel complement the full bodied character.

PUNI ARTE Edition 02 46% ABV
PUNI’S ARTE Edition 02 is an evolution of their Italian malt whiskies. Instead of solely relying on their three-malt mash bill of barley, wheat, and local rye, this whisky mixes in an additional single malt distilled at PUNI. The first whisky of three malted grains is matured for almost eight years in ex-bourbon and virgin oak barrels. This is then blended with a barley only single malt that is aged for four years in ex-bourbon barrels. The results are a balance between dry and rich that shows honeyed vanilla cakes in a lovely combination with spicy ginger and toasted tobacco leaves.
